The majority of WH clients work with Liberty Online Academy for their virtual school needs including my own rider who is graduating high school in 2029.
We appreciate the access to NCAA approved courses, dual enrollment, and enhanced class options as riders plan for college. We encourage you to look at all curriculums you are interested in and choose what works best for your student and family.
Getting to know students and their families is a priority. My goal is to be a positive influence in their lives, support their learning and writing style, and provide a framework to balance academics and riding careers so students feel confident in themselves as they wean out of our program.
We love sharing recommendations with college coaches and Admissions for WH Student Riders.
Horses have always been my passion, and sharing what I have learned is what drives me. I rode in college and was the first equestrian to be inducted into my school's athletic Hall of Fame. I went on to coach a college club team in Virginia for 20 years. To say I love combining horses with teaching is an understatement.
My own daughter will be a 2029 high school graduate and discovered reining, something I knew nothing about as a horse professional! We decided to transition to virtual school to allow travel and get her the right program in a discipline I was completely new at. We had a big learning curve the first year we tackled school at home! I learned a lot about how to better help with scheduling classes, utilizing support services at the school, managing due dates, projects, etc. My experience as a horse professional helped me look ahead at the riding and showing schedule and inherently know which horse show days would be too busy for schoolwork, and which were reasonable to plan for assignments.
Our ability to be flexible has given my daughter more opportunities in her riding and her academic success. The chance to help other students balance horses and school was a welcome transition for me, and we developed Winter Hill Student Rider Services.
My post-graduate degree in Professional Writing: Research Administration and Sponsored Programs has been an asset helping students develop their own research and writing skills which are needed in all subjects and careers in some way. My relationships with other college coaches gives me great insight to what they are looking for in student athletes as well as the unique qualities of their schools and programs.
Ultimately, each student is accountable for their work and riding obligations. However, I believe everyone needs a team to lean on and learn from. My goal is to meet each student and family where they are at, understand their goals, and work with them to develop the skills and confidence to not need me anymore.
The Central Virginia Student Rider Club (CVSRC) was founded in 2022. Our goal is to help students find opportunities through their involvement with horses.
CVSRC promotes horsemanship, camaraderie, and academic success for student riders in any discipline and at any level of riding.
